My Favorite Things Summer School- Lesson 10 Monochromatic

Thursday, July 23, 2015

Hello friends. I am back with my final card for My Favorite Things Summer School. This lesson in color theory is Monochromatic.

Here's what I created for this lesson.

I pulled out my Contemporary Roses and used Ripe Raspberry and Bubble gum hybrid ink to stamp them. Then I die cut my sentiment in Ripe raspberry cardstock. I backed it on MFT's new Dots and Stripes Sorbet 6x6 pad and finished with sequins.

MFT Summer School Lesson #9 – Color Theory: Secondary Colors

Hello friends. I'm sharing another card from My Favorite Things Summer School. Today's Lesson is Color Theory-Secondary Colors.

For my project I decided to use Purple, Yellow and Blue/Green
I really enjoyed the process of creating this card. I find water coloring to be very relaxing.

Here's how my "homework" turned out

I used Die-namics Flutter of Butterflies Lace and Written in Watercolors stamp set. I stamped my Sentiment in the Summer Splash Hybrid ink and embossed it.

I have really enjoyed these lessons. I only wish I had time to finish them all before their due dates but I will be finishing them sometime in the next week.

Have a creative day!

MFT Summer School Lesson #7 Color Theory

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Hello friends. I found sometime time to create for MFT's Second Summer School Session this week. I was so excited about this series of classes but honestly this is the first chance I've had to do the "homework"

Lesson # 7 is about Color Theory.

I love orange and blue together. These colors can be for a masculine or feminine card.
For my card I chose a Happy Birthday theme with the Birthday Centerpieces die and sentiment from Totally Happy stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a creative day.

Shine On

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Hello friends. Yes I am just getting this post up this morning for My Favorite Things weekly sketch challenge.
We had a busy weekend in the Smith house celebrating our Lily turning 8. We spent her special day at The Grove having lunch at the American Girl Cafe and then shopping for her very first American Girl doll. Neighbors and friends have stopped by to give her gifts and we've frequented the Mattel Store a few times spending her Birthday money on Ever After High dolls. She now has quite the collection!

Anyway here is my card for this week's sketch

Supplies: My Favorite Things Stamps: Things with Wings, Patterned Paper: Dots & Stripes Sorbet, Dies: Pierced Circle Stax. Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner XL,  3D Foam squares Combo Pack

I decided to make an encouragement card for a friend who has been having a rough time. I love this sentiment. It makes me think, "when life gets you down, SHINE ON!"

Do you like to send encouragement cards?

A new sketch challenge is posted every Wednesday at the My Favorite Things Challenge Blog.

Have a creative day!

Hello Unity friends, thanks for joining us for another fun week of New Releases and inspiration at Unity.
Before I share my creations, here's a reminder of today's specials

Today I am creating with the August 2015 Sentiment set Butterflies & Sunbeams

I made three different cards using this beautiful set with 3 different coloring mediums.

For this card, I used Copic markers to color the image.

For this one I used Tim Holtz distress inks and a water color pen.

For the last one I used a Sakura Quickie Glue pen and Martha Stewart iridescent glitter.

I love the sentiment kits, they are so versatile.

There is a fabulous prize up for grabs today. Make sure you leave a comment on each of the blogs to be entered to win.

If you've just stopped by my blog here is the list of Design Team members participating in today's hop.

Water coloring and Eyelet Outlet brads

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Hello friends!  Today I am sharing a few summer cards I created with my Cricut Explore, watercolors and some of my favorite Eyelet Outlet brads.

The Explore cuts just about any medium so I thought it would be great to cut some images with water color paper and color them with my Tim Holtz distress inks.

Supplies:
Jewel Strips
Tim Holtz distress inks
Anna Griffin Floral Ground Embossing folder.
Adhesive:
Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner XL,  3D Foam squares Combo Pack

I used Canson water color paper I bought from Michaels with a 40% of coupon.

Cut out some images I liked from the Life is Beach cartridge with my Cricut Explore and colored them using a water brush and Tim Holtz distress markers.

I used circles of vellum paper painted lightly in the background and added the brads and bling strip to the Sea Horse.

For the next card I cut out a pre-designed card from the Life is a Beach cart with a sheet of watercolor paper. The finished card is 5.5 x 5.5

I used painters tape so the colors would not bleed into each other. I started with coral and then colored the outside border.

Once it dried I embellished the front with the die cuts I colored and added the Sea Shells and Shell corner brads. The bling strips were easy to adhere around the card base and I finished with vellum in the center of the card.

I hope you'll give this technique a try and share your creations with me.

Thanks for stopping by.

My Favorite Things Sketch #236

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Hello friends. How's your summer going so far? Here I am, getting my sketch in just in time this fabulous Tuesday morning.

I enjoy creating for My Favorite Thing's weekly Sketch Challenge. It's fun to see what the new sketch will bring. I also enjoy choosing what to use from my collection of MFT products.

Here's a look at this week's sketch.

Here's my card for this week. I kept this one pretty simple.

Supplies: My Favorite Things Stamps: I love you more, Balloon Strings Background. Dies: Inside & Out Diagonal stitched Rectangle Stax, watercolors, Tim Holtz Water Color Paper.

For my card I used Lesson #6 – Color Theory: Gallon/Quart/Pint from MFT's Summer School Series. I've been making cards a long time but never thought to apply this rule. I'll be honest, I did struggle a bit with choosing which of my colors to be gallon/quart/pint. I think the end result was good. I enjoyed stamping the Balloon Strings background with white ink

and embossing the image. Then I used watercolors to color the entire image.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Celebrate it Decorate it Banner

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

Thank you for stopping by today. I'm sharing a Wedding themed banner I made for Anna Griffin's Celebrate it Decorate it paper and cartridge bundle with my Cricut Explore.

This banner was fun to put together by adding ribbon, tulled, punched medallions, doilies and more. I made my own fringe for the top of the Mr. & Mrs. pieces. I just adhered crepe paper with Therm-O-Web Sticky Lines. Then I used scissors to make the fringe. I used another strip of Sticky lines and adhered silver tinsel on a string across the middle.
Cute and easy!

I made a card to match adding some tulled and the sentiment in silver glitter cardstock.

I added a Melissa Frances crystal to the bottom of the center scalloped style banner. You can see it just to the left of the card. Just hole punch the bottom of the banner and add a crystal with a jewelry jump ring.

I made the matching cupcake toppers with glitter paper and pearls.

This project was fun and easy to put together. I suggest using Therm-O-Webs sticky dot ahesives for adhering Cricut dies cuts. You can easily rub away the excess. I find with other adhesives they leave too much of a sticky residue that junks up my cuts.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Anna Griffin's Grand Duet embossing folders

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Thanks for visiting today! I'm sharing a few cards that I made for Anna Griffin's May HSN show with her Grand Duet folders.
The folders are 6x12 with 2 6x6 embossed designs in each folder. The designs are so beautiful and fun to create with.

Here's a look at a few of my designs with them.

My Therm-O-Web 3D foam squares made this cut out from the folder pop.

I sanded the embossed design a bit for  a distressed look on this card. I also love pairing these with Anna's glitter cardstock. What's your favorite technique to use on embossing folders?

Paired with the Foil Stamped card layers, these folders are stunning.

I'll be back tomorrow showing a project I made with Anna's Decorate it Celebrate paper and cartridge kit for the Cricut Explore.

Thanks for stopping by today.

My Favorite Things Sketch # 235

Monday, July 6, 2015

Hello friends! Here's my card for this week's My Favorite Things weekly

First, here's the sketch

Here's my card.

Supplies: My Favorite Things Dies: Fluttering Hearts Cover UpPierced Circle Stax, Words of Gratitude, Heart Puzzle. My Favorite Things Stamps: Gift Card Greetings. (Thank You sentiment)

I chose these colors off of the scraps I had on my table after making other cards. I decided to make the Heart Puzzle die a shaker and added some matching sequins.

I often find myself reaching for the scraps around my table when I am making cards. I store my 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of cardstock in We R Memory Keepers 8 1/2 x 11 classic leather album sleeves . It's easy to add my scraps to the sheet protectors for later so I don't cut a fresh sheet when I only need a smaller size.

How do you use up your scraps and do you follow this method as well?

Have a great day!
