MFT Weekly Sketch Challenge

Sunday, May 17, 2015

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I found some time to craft it up with my new MFT goodies! Here's my take on this week's My Favorite Things

Here's a look at this week's sketch.

Here's my card

Supplies:
My Favorite Things Fluttering Hearts cover up, Circle Stax, Stitched Speech Bubbles, LLD Flamingos, LLD Tickled Pink. Adhesive: Therm-O-Web Sticky Strip Runner, 3D Foam Squares Combo pack.

I just love these Flamingos designed by Laina Lamb. She's so stinkin talented! I loved Kay Miller's card from the release posts and added some white dots to my Flamingo wings like she did using a Sakura Gelly Roll pen in white. This is by far the best white pen I have found and trust me when I say I have bought them all.

There is still time for you to create with this week's sketch. Find out how here.

Pretty Paintings Card kit by Anna Griffin

Friday, May 15, 2015

Hello friends, I wanted to share a few cards I created using Anna Griffin's Pretty Paintings card kit.

I love Anna's card kits. I always know they will be loaded with gorgeous layers, flowers and sentiments.

Here's a few I put together using the kit for it's HSN debut back in March.

You can fussy cut the inserts and add foam dots to accent.

They key to beautiful cards is layering. How many layers can you spot on this card?

This is my favorite of the bunch.

Adhesive: Therm-O-Web Sticky Strip Runner3D Foam Squares Combo pack.

I put all of these together in a snap! I know Anna has another show coming up in July on HSN so keep an eye out for her next card kit.

Trust me when I say you will love putting it together!

I'll be sharing the Playful Pieces cards I made for the May HSN show next week.

Have a creative day!

Butterfly love

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Hello friends!
I'm sharing some lovely cards I created with Anna Griffins newest dies. As soon as I took theses butterfly dies out of the package I was in love!

Purple and Yellow is a perfect combo. I love to double up the same die with 3D foam squares.

For this card I used a card base from Anna's Cricut Cartridge and die cut the cardstock for the butterflies to rest on. It's easy to coordinate other embellishments like Anna's foil flourishes.

For this card I embossed the background paper and place the butterfly dies over with 3D foam squares by Therm-O-Web.

I mixed some of the Juliet papers to create this card. I love keeping card designs monochromatic.

For this last card I used one of Anna's die cut images from her Cricut library and then layered the butterflies and flowers around the die.

Mother's Day card and gift in one!

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Don't have any ideas for a Mother's Day gift this year? I've got a fun tutorial to share with you that was featured on the Therm-o-Web blog!  My Mom loves to wear pins and broaches to church on Sundays. I thought it would be fun to accent a fabric flower with iCraft® Deco Foil™ using the transfer adhesive to make a one of a kind gift.

MothersDay1TWWM
You will Need:
Therm-O-Web Supplies:
Other Supplies:
Fabric Flower
Broach for center
Cardstock to make card
Embossing folder
Tulle
My Favorite Things Flourish Die
Adhesive backed bling
I purchased some fabric flowers that already had a pretty broach in the center from my local craft store by Jolees to create with.

MD2

First remove the center broach so it's easy to apply iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Adhesive. Simply added dots of the glue on the fabric petals at random and then let them dry.

MD3

Once they dry, take small squares of the Silver Star Deco Foil and burnish them onto the dry drops of transfer adhesive using a scoring tool.

MD4

This technique adds a fun texture to the flower. Get creative and draw swirl,s hearts and other shapes with the adhesive.
Now to create the flourishes. You need these items.

Md

Use the iCraft Deco Foil Foam Adhesive to cut the shaped die just like you would cardstock.

MD5

Due to the intricacy of the die, it was a bit difficult to apply the Silver Star Deco Foil to the die cut flourish alone. Peeling the sticky tape off the top and having it lay flat to apply the Deco Foil was a challenge.  It will be much easier to leave the image in the negative of the foam (as pictured) and pull the top layer off the adhesive. Then place the Deco Foil sheet on top of the adhesive and burnished it.
Now cut cardstock at 12x6 and fold. Layer a silver piece cut  and embossed in desired  pattern at 5 3/4 x 5 3/4 .  Adhere the cardstock using Therm-O-Web Sticky Strip Runner, then tie some white tulle to both sides meeting in the middle so the card looks like a package. Use Zots Single Medium to the center of your knot and adhere the foiled flourishes to the tulle.

MD6

Add a lapel pin backing to the fabric flower so it can be worn.

MDcloseupTOWWM

Finish off the card by stamping the sentiment, adhering it to the card base and embellishing the front with fabric flower by attaching it using the pin to adhere it to the tulle.
So now Mom's gift is a part of the card too! To find out more about Therm-O-Web's products, visit their webpage here.
