Whirlwind...my CHA recap pt 1

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Hi friends! It's been a busy week and weekend...I wanted to share with you some of my CHA pics but I have so many things to share with you that I've got to break it up into more than one post...so we'll start with a sample of Basic Grey...this layout says it all for me

beautiful Kaiser Craft artwork full of their bling, a fav of mine

Angela always sets the bar so high with her amazing booth for Unity. What a beautiful and amazing woman she is.

Oh Cosmo, how I love you so...

Hambly offerings that make me smile

Oh soo yummy :)

Meeting Michele and her hubby Jesse was one of the best things about CHA!

I worked the show for the first time with Jong. He's a really amazing guy with a fantastic product and I know you're going to be hearing much much more about Love My Tapes

I was really excited to see Ms. Robyn again this year. Last year was the first time we met and I am constantly inspired by her talent! Look for her work at the Bo Bunny blog where she designs :)

I was thrilled that Tim is doing some work with Imaginisce. What a great collaberation and a great opportunity to meet this amazing crafty guy! Also he is so genuine and nice...love that!

something new from making memories, a vintage jewelry line...yummy

Ok this gal is my hero...and not because she works for Hero Arts...but because she inspires me to create not just good cards but great cards! I would never have become the card maker I am today if it weren't for her videos and amazing inspiration on the Hero blog

I want one of everything from Lizzy's new line at American Crafts and the bike to boot!

and my absolute favorite thing of the show, a shower of butterflies cut with the making memories Slice...if only i could have gotten them to listen and give this to me to take home...
I'll be back later this week with more pics. Thanks for stopping by today.

February Paper Posies kit reveal!

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Hi friends. I'm getting back into my groove after CHA. I feel much better after a good nights rest and now I just need to get my calendar organized. I've got so much to tell you about on my Examiner page and lots of giveaway! So be sure and sign up to subscribe when new articles are posted.
During CHA we had the February kit reveal at Paper Posies. This month's kit is all about LOVE!

Here's what Michelle has to say about the Feb kit: I fell in love with Pink Paislee’s Cupid line the moment I first saw a sneak of it. I fell in love with the non-traditional Valentine’s colors that offer great versatility for scrapping and card making. I also love the Kraft elements of this kit, found in both the beautiful Fancy Pants papers and the fun Maya Road envelopes. And of course, what is a February kit without cupcakes? I've been anxious to include some of Pink Paislee’s new borderline stickers and am definitely not disappointed! I also just adore the new stitched brads and tickets. I hope that you have as much fun digging into this kit as I have!!!
- Michele, Paper Posies Owner

I really wanted to stretch out of my comfort zone with this kit and try some fun techniques and products I don't usually use. I also wanted to try a grid layout based on one of Becky Flecks fab sketches. I really enjoyed working with this month's kit.

I really want to make a goal to scrap myself more this year for my kids. This layout I wanted to use the Glimmer Mist and then I created my own flowers. (See my tutorial on this post)

Here's my grid layout, It's a little crooked but overall I loved filling in each box with something a little different.

For this layout I folded flowers and tipped them with Martha's fab glitter and used Close To My Hearts fabulous waxy fax in brown to create the vine the climb up my page on. I also took the chipboard heart from Maya Road and embossed it with my Cuttlebug and a Provo Craft folder. Then I inked it with Tim's fab distress inks and traced the swirls with clear glue and finished it off by sprinkling clear micro beads all over the embossed image.

I'm still sifting thru all my emails after being away but I want to share with you Stephanie Howell's blog. I've been an avid reader of her blog for sometime and I enjoy her blog because she writes from her heart like myself. Our blogs are a piece of ourselves that we share with our friends and family. It's an amazing outlet to speak about what touches our hearts and a place where inspiration can be found.
I am always inspired by Stephanie's work but it's her spirit that keeps me coming back. She recently posted about being kind. It was a post that really made me think and I love that about her blog. I know I am a kind person but I can be even kinder. People are good and deserve the simplest kindnesses especially from strangers. Please take a moment to read her post. I was inspired and I hope you will be to.
We have a sisterhood that I love in the crafting world and I really felt it at CHA. I met so many talented and amazing women and I left feeling so good to have met them. Thanks to each and everyone of them who was kind to me. Thanks so much for staying with me to the end of this post today and have an amazing day!

Day 1 at CHA!!

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Wow! What day! I arrived at 8:30 and checked into the Press room to pick up my badge and grab some press kits and place my vote. It was nice to have a place to spread everything out and look at each one and decide what I wanted to go and see first!
I met up with Jong from Love My Tapes and worked in his booth from 9 til 1. We had a lot of fun and a visit from Cath from Moxie Fab! She agreed with me that the Japanese masking tapes were totally Moxie Fab! The gals from Paper Crafts magazine dropped by and loved the tapes as well. I also met Carol from Scrap n Art eZine and Ana from Scrapbook Trends. The Craft Critique gals came by as well, what a fun bunch of girls!! So as I was talking to a customer about Love My Tapes look who I spotted!

It's Bree! Our fabulous leader and owner of Get Sketchy, the sketch challenge blog I design for. I can't believe she flew in from Canada for just one day! Wish she was going to be around longer :) So great to meet you Bree!

After I finished my shift at Love My Tapes I met up with Michele, owner of Paper Posies. We checked out lots of goodies for upcoming kits! Hmm maybe some Pink Paislee??

Or maybe these new Cozy Posies from Basic Grey?

Ohhh I know you want to see more...but I won't be home til Tuesday evening and I promise I'll have LOTS to show you!

Thanks for stopping by!!

New itop video from Tim Holtz

Thursday, January 21, 2010

It's not news that I love my i-top tool from Imaginisce. The possibilities are endless! I mean how cool is it that you can create your own brad anytime with just about anything. I've tried ribbon, fabric, stickers, Stickles, Holographic embossing powder...you name it! And then Tim gets ahold of one of our tools and WOW's me yet again. Take a look

Here's a look at a couple projects I'm working on for Love My Tapes for the booth at CHA. I've been working with this set. The tape is fun and really easy to use. I stamped on it and embossed the image for the B.
And layout with paper by Melody Ross for GCD Studios.

Close up of tape, fun stuff huh!

Thanks for stopping by today!

sneak peek and some ideas for jazzin up your flowers

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Hi friends! It's raining here in Los Angeles and I'm hoping it will end by Saturday for CHA. I've been working away on projects and just got a last minute Fed Ex package with some goodies to make a few samples for a manufacturer I'll be helping out at CHA. I'll show you what I come up with as soon as I finish my samples.
Here's a sneak peek of what I've been working on this week for Paper Posies. If you are looking for a fantastic kit club, look no more. You can take a look at our past kits here.

I can't wait to show you the entire layout, I'm really trying to be faithful to my new year's resolution and taking more time for myself.
I wanted to share how I made the flowers on my layout. I started with some fabric flowers on the left from Bo Bunny and some paper flowers on the right from Kaiser Craft

I sprayed them generously with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

And dried them with my heat tool

Now I just use reg tacky glue to dust the petals...

And sprinkle glitter all over the edges

And shake off the excess

And here's the same process on the Kaiser Craft flowers

Now layer and add something to the center like a brad or a maya Road flowe like I did above and your plain flowers are now FAB!
Thanks for stopping by, be sure and leave me a link if you decide to try this idea. I'd love to see what you create!

Moxie Fab Color Challenge

Monday, January 18, 2010

Hi friends! I've missed you all this weekend! My hubby hijacked our personal computer and I haven't been able to blog! Ugh give the guy a 3 day weekend to play online games and he becomes obsessed! So I'm getting my Moxie Fab Jan/Feb 2010 Color Play Challenge challenge in right under the wire...EEK!

Here's the color combo

And here's my take, yes using my favorite product right now. These Martha Stewart micro beads are just SO fab and suddenly trendy!!! Maya Road had some sneaks on their blog the other day and guess what I spied on their chipboard...I'm just sayin, they're trendy!

Here's a close up of the butterfly. This is just a wood die cut from Micheals coated in liquid glue and sprinkled with micro beads. I traced the wood die cut on the maroon card stock to layer the colors and cut around the traced lines to reveal the marroon cardstock and then traced the die cut with a white Sakura white gel pen and used pop dots to pop the image off the card.
Designer's tip: once you coat the butterfly with the liquid glue, use a Popsicle stick to evenly spread the glue all over the die cut to avoid the glue being too thick.

That's it for today, I hope you had a fantastic Monday! Stay tuned for tomorrow's Jacksonbelle challenge!
